elegy. brahms.

project description, credits,,,,,

How much are we willing to sacrifice to fulfill our ambitions? Drawing inspiration from the poetry of Goethe, Schiller, and Hölderlin, which served as the starting point for Brahms' song, the creators of the performance pose a question about the nature of fulfillment.

Faustian ambition, which, in defiance of human imperfection, fuels the desire to approach an ideal, is illustrated through the example of Rosalind Franklin. The British researcher took the first-ever photograph of DNA, significantly contributing to the discovery that revolutionized the world of science. Her scientific work was her entire life - Franklin never married and did not build close relationships. In the letters she regularly wrote to her father, she declared her complete devotion to the ideal of science and clearly defined her stance on questions regarding the nature of faith and life after death.

As a result of her research using X-ray radiation, Franklin died of ovarian cancer at the age of 37. After her death, the results of her research enabled the discovery of the DNA structure. For this discovery, three of Franklin's colleagues were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962. When publishing the discovery based on Franklin's research, the fathers of DNA omitted her name. For decades, Franklin's contribution to the discovery of the secret of life - the structure of DNA - was diminished.
