Tell me, please, what do you hide under your tutu?
We believe in rebellious strategies of ballet resistance. In alternative worlds. In ugly ballet. In not ballet. In naked ballet. In ballet our way. In ballet your way and yours. We want to explore all the uses of the ballet barre. We want to find out what keeps us from leaving the floor in Grand Jeté. This is ballet about ballet. It’s vows and mystical forests. It’s knights rescued from towers by princesses. It’s the end of the world. It’s post-ballet.
*idontlikemetut(yo)u* is an experimental choreographic performance, a critical dialogue of losers with the structures of traditional ballet education. A chimera performance. Inspired by the idea of failure as a form of resistance, it delves not only into the space of body and movement but also the biopolitical regimes shaping classical dance. Embracing subversive creative methods and oppositional pedagogies, it breaks down hierarchical relations between master-student and audience-performer.
This is ballet partisanship, an artistic and political manifesto. At the center of attention are the clumsy ones – the naive and absurd. We believe the technical path is not for us, we leave it to the wonderful people connected to ballet. We demand space for ballet deviants. For us, for homeless ballerinas, ballet masters, and ballet-unidentified.
All of this for a silly revolution. We will abandon everything. We’ll examine what has become dysfunctional in ballet, while also having the courage to talk about what's good in the system. We’ll turn to Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm, using their fantasies to refuse improvement, ballet self-perfection. We won’t be political actors in pink and white tights. We will dance solos we’ll never perform in ballet. The final Grand Pas will be danced by a pile of ballet bars, anyway, we move like we would have sticks in our xxxxx.
