japi
project description, credits,,,,,
The performance explores the idea of the ideal man, addressing both the widely recognized alpha male and the contemporary, more enigmatic sigma male. The title “JAPI” refers to the social category of the yuppie, which emerged in the United States in the 1980s, whose representatives became role models for many young career-driven individuals around the world, as well as to its somewhat clumsy Polish counterpart known as japiszon. The protagonists of the performance are five men driven to achieve success and social prestige, enslaved by an obsession with lifestyle, a fascination with high material status and luxury, and a constant need to construct a perfect version of themselves.
“JAPI” is another production by Carrodunum Dance Company, a dance ensemble operating under the umbrella of Teatr Nowy Proxima. It is an intense, movement-based, musical, and visual performance that showcases the exceptional professionalism and artistry of its dancers.
The piece is an adaptation of the dance theatre performance “Polski japiszon jeździ małym fiatem”, created as part of a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
